Monarch Caterpillars Steal the Show at South Carolina Pollinator Garden Workshop
A free pollinator garden workshop in South Carolina recently got an unexpected boost from some tiny monarch caterpillars. The creatures made their appearance during a morning session in August, giving attendees a live example of the kind of wildlife that can be supported by a pollinator-friendly garden.
The workshop, hosted by a local nursery, was one of several free public events held throughout the year to help people build gardens that support pollinators. The event's instructor, Mimi, talked about plants and answered attendees' questions, while they enjoyed the flowers and noticed the caterpillars.
Pollinator gardens offer more than just visual appeal; they can also provide a source of income for nearby edible plants in home gardens. Spending time outdoors and focusing on living things can support mental well-being, and learning with others in a local setting can give people the confidence to start their own gardening project.
