Monstropolis Opens Its Doors: Disney Unveils Phased Launch Plan
The highly anticipated Monsters, Inc.-inspired land at Disney's Hollywood Studios is finally taking shape. Dubbed Monstropolis, this immersive experience will invite human visitors into the monster world for the first time in history.
According to Disney, portions of Monstropolis will begin welcoming guests as early as 2027, with a phased opening that will allow visitors to explore the streets, enjoy entertainment options, and sample the local cuisine. The land's door coaster, expected to draw inspiration from the famous door-vault sequence in Monsters, Inc., is still under construction but promises to be an exhilarating addition to the experience.
Disney has revealed several details about Monstropolis, including a new storyline that explains why monsters are allowing humans into their city. The narrative revolves around the Department of Human Relations, which helps monsters understand and prepare for human visitors. This will culminate in H.U.M.A.N. Day, an annual celebration where guests can explore the monster world, meet its inhabitants, and experience everyday life inside Monstropolis.
The land will feature two distinct dining experiences: Harryhausen's Restaurant, inspired by the sushi bar from Monsters, Inc., and Archie's Scare Pig Pizza, which promises to serve up delicious slices with a side of monster-themed fun. Additionally, visitors can shop for souvenirs at the Scareporium, browse the Monsters University Alumni Club, or catch a performance of 'Welcome to Monstropolis,' hosted by Mike and Sulley.
