Mumbai Warehouse Raid Exposes Fake Food Export Operation

Indian authorities have raided an illicit warehouse in Mumbai where food exports were being faked with altered expiry dates and nutritional information. The operation, run by Sadhana Enterprises for 19 exporters, was uncovered during a six-day investigation.

The seized goods are worth nearly $80,000, including products from PepsiCo, Nestle, Coca-Cola, and Unilever. A Reuters photographer saw chemicals used to remove original labels and machines that print fake ones, with reprinted labels found in English and French.

Tukaram Mundhe, the head of Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration, described the operation as 'organised activity' done 'systematically'. He called for supply chain accountability and compliance with regulations.
