Muppets' Emmy Wins Spark Series Order Hopes, But No Decision Yet
The Muppets special has become an unlikely Emmy performer for Disney after winning four awards at the 2026 ceremony, accounting for over a quarter of the company's overall haul.
The variety special, which premiered on February 4, was also a top ratings performer, attracting nearly 8 million viewers across multiple platforms within eight days of its airing on ABC and launch on Disney+.
Despite its success, there has been no series order for the Muppets yet, despite being intended as a backdoor pilot. According to sources, the main production entities - 20th Television, The Muppets Studio, and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's Point Grey Pictures - have had difficulties cracking a premise for an ongoing Muppet Show series that everyone will be on board for.
It seems unlikely that a series order will be announced in the near future, but the Emmy wins could give the process new momentum. The Muppets special has already achieved some notable recognition, including getting Grammy winner Sabrina Carpenter halfway to EGOT as an executive producer.
