Murder Trial Postponed as Mangione Challenges Double Jeopardy
Luigi Mangione's state murder trial has been postponed due to a double jeopardy challenge.
Mangione pleaded guilty to federal charges in connection with the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, admitting he stalked and killed him.
The federal charges include manslaughter, stalking, and interstate domestic violence resulting in death. Mangione faces life in federal prison for his crimes.
In a statement to the court, Mangione expressed frustration with the U.S. healthcare system after suffering from severe back pain for years. He said those frustrations prompted him to research UnitedHealth Group's annual investor conference and pose as an investor to gain access to the event.
