Musk Praises mRNA Tech as 'Tremendous' Breakthrough in Disease Treatment
Elon Musk has praised the potential of mRNA technology to revolutionize disease treatment. In a recent post on X, he stated that despite its misuse during the COVID-19 pandemic, mRNA has tremendous promise for curing diseases and makes treating them more like a software problem.
Musk's comments came after Moderna Inc. (NASDAQ:MRNA) and Merck & Co Inc. (NYSE:MRK) announced positive Phase 3 results for an individualized mRNA cancer vaccine in a melanoma trial. The treatment showed significant improvement in recurrence-free and metastasis-free survival when combined with Merck's Keytruda.
Musk has been a long-time proponent of using artificial intelligence to transform healthcare, saying that advances in synthetic RNA could make medicine increasingly programmable and potentially cure almost anything. He has also stated that the combination of Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot and AI will enable universal excellent healthcare better than anyone receives today.
The positive results for Moderna and Merck's cancer vaccine have sent shockwaves through the industry, with BioNTech SE (NASDAQ:BNTX) and Arcturus Therapeutics Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:ARCT) also seeing significant gains in response to the news.
