My Peshawar Refuses to Budge on Palestine Boycott Despite Customer Backlash
My Peshawar, a restaurant group with locations in Bradford, Batley, Manchester, and Leeds, defended its decision not to sell Coca-Cola or Pepsi after a customer complained about its stance on Palestine.
The customer reportedly told staff that she did not care about events in Palestine and claimed they were 'not her problem' because she was not Muslim. When asked for a different drink, the customer demanded Coca-Cola or Pepsi and asked for a discount when refused. She then threatened to leave a bad review.
My Peshawar's policy of not stocking these brands is part of the wider pro-Palestinian boycott campaigns, including the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. The restaurant stated that their position on Palestine was not based on religion, but rather a human concern for innocent people being killed, families displaced, and children suffering.
The customer was asked to finish her starters and leave after causing a disturbance in the restaurant. My Peshawar's response to the incident was clear: 'You do not get to threaten our staff with bad reviews and bully us into changing our policies.'
