Nadella Slams Anthropic's 'Editorially Controlled' AI Model

Microsoft's stock fell 1.3% in overnight trading as its CEO, Satya Nadella, expressed concerns about Anthropic's Fable 5 AI model. The model has been criticized for its stringent guardrails, which some believe are too restrictive. Nadella reportedly told Microsoft employees that Fable 5 now appears 'editorially controlled' and that some of the limits do not 'make sense.'

The issue arose when users reported being routed to an older version of the model after asking certain questions, including those related to building large-scale AI models. Anthropic's support page confirms this practice, citing user queries about cancer research as an example. This has raised concerns that the model is not providing accurate or unbiased information.

Nadella's comments come amid a broader debate over the safety and regulation of AI technology. The U.S. government recently directed Anthropic to restrict access to Fable 5 and its parent model, Mythos, for foreign users and organizations due to concerns about potential misuse.
