Nadella Warns of Unchecked Superintelligence Threat
Microsoft Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Satya Nadella emphasized the importance of human oversight in the development of advanced artificial intelligence systems. According to Nadella, any pursuit of superintelligence must be grounded in the principle that AI should help humanity and remain under human control.
Nadella also welcomed 'deliberate pacing needed to get alignment right' alongside proposals for embedded evaluators to monitor systems inside laboratories. He urged industry participants to turn safety concepts into concrete operational mechanisms, ensuring broad representation across the ecosystem, countries, and fields, including academia.
The executive emphasized that governance cannot be controlled by a handful of entities, but must have broad representation. Nadella also stated that a healthy frontier ecosystem requires 'both closed and open-source models' to thrive, preserving authority over unique and tacit knowledge.
