NASA and IBM Unveil AI Model to Map Lunar Ice Deposits
NASA and IBM have launched an open-source AI model to help scientists analyze decades of lunar observation data.
The Nasa-IBM Lunar Foundation Model was trained on over 30 layers of data collected by nine instruments on four NASA missions, including the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.
The model can identify potential ice deposits in permanently shadowed regions, map craters for safe landing sites, and study volcanic features.
In benchmark tests, the model identified key features up to 23% more accurately than existing methods, according to NASA and IBM.
