NASCAR Xfinity Fastest Lap Program Returns with New Rules
The NASCAR Xfinity Fastest Lap program returns for its second season in 2026 with some changes to the rules. One notable exception is that drivers who head to the garage are now ineligible to earn the bonus point after returning to the track. This change means that times recorded during an extended stay in the garage will no longer be eligible for the point.
In 2025, Kyle Larson and Josh Berry both earned the fastest lap point at Mexico City and Watkins Glen International after long stints in the garage. Under the new rules, these instances would have been ineligible for the bonus point.
Another change this season is that NASCAR is increasing the points for a race win from 40 to 55. This adds up with the 20 points for two stage wins and the fastest lap bonus, making the maximum points day in NASCAR this season 76 (86 for the Coca-Cola 600).
