National Geographic's Epic 'Lion' Series Premieres August 19
Get ready for an epic adventure as National Geographic's new four-part event series 'Lion' premieres on August 19. The series follows the remarkable journey of a lion cub named Kio as he becomes king, chronicling his four-year journey to the top of the pride.
The series is executive produced by Disney Legend Jon Favreau and BBC Studios Natural History Unit's Creative Director Mike Gunton. It features an original score by Hans Zimmer, Niccolò Pacella, and George Hutson Warren from Bleeding Fingers Music Group.
The crew spent nearly 1,400 filming days across 52 shoots in Kenya's Maasai Mara to document Kio's journey. 'After tracking the lions in the field for four years, the pride never ceased to surprise us - what Kio endures and eventually becomes is extraordinary,' says Favreau.
'Lion' offers a powerful co-viewing experience for animal lovers, families, and anyone drawn to epic storytelling. It's filled with drama, heart, and high-stakes adventure as it chronicles the true story of the Maasai Mara's lion kings, queens, and a new hero named Kio.
