Nationalist Leaders Unite in Bid for Independence Referendums

Nationalist leaders from Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have gathered in Cardiff to sign a pact aimed at pushing for independence referendums in their respective countries. This historic meeting marks the first time that three nationalist-first ministers are leading devolved governments in these regions.

The memorandum of understanding signed by Sinn Féin vice president Michelle O'Neill, SNP leader John Swinney, and Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth calls for constitutional change in their countries. This includes pressure on the British government to 'prepare, plan, and facilitate' such changes.

The meeting was attended by Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald, who emphasized that partition has failed the island of Ireland and its people's best interests have never been served by Westminster. The leaders also discussed partnership in areas like economy, energy, and international cooperation.
