Navi Mumbai Warehouse Raid Exposes Altered Food Products for Export
Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has spoken out against an alleged operation in Navi Mumbai, where manufacturers are accused of altering expiration dates and nutritional information on food products meant for export.
The investigation found nearly 5,000 cartons of consumer products at the warehouse, including items from major companies such as PepsiCo's Lay's and Kurkure, Nestle's Maggi Masala Noodles, Unilever's Knorr Mushroom Soup, Hellmann's Mayonnaise, Coca-Cola's Thums Up and Limca.
Authorities found machines allegedly used to print and apply new information on the packaging. One packet of Kurkure was reportedly labeled in English and French, with altered ingredient information including cereal product quantity, calorie, and serving-size details.
Mundhe wrote that when promises are deliberately manipulated, it is not merely a violation of regulations, but a breach of public trust. He added that the affected products were likely being sent to unspecified countries for export.
