Navy Awards Boeing Contract for Aerial Refueling Drones

The U.S. Navy has taken a significant step forward in its development of aerial refueling drones, awarding Boeing a $562 million contract to build three MQ-25A Stingray aircraft.

The MQ-25 is the world's first fully integrated carrier-based unmanned aircraft and will be used to free up F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jets for combat missions by providing mid-air refueling capabilities.

The Navy plans to eventually have a fleet of 76 MQ-25 drones, with 67 operational units and nine test and development aircraft.
