Navy Nears Decision on Next-Generation Fighter Program

The U.S. Navy is nearing a decision on its next-generation carrier-based stealth aircraft, F/A-XX, with both Boeing and Northrop Grumman competing for the contract.

According to Reuters, the Pentagon has selected a preferred contractor, although the winner has not yet been publicly identified. The contract is expected to be awarded in the near future.

The F/A-XX is intended to replace the Navy's current F/A-18E/F Super Hornet during the 2030s and will feature greater range, survivability, and networking capabilities than its predecessor.

The program has faced delays due to concerns over engineering resources and industrial capacity, but Congress has provided additional funding to keep it moving forward.
