.NET Framework Update Causes Printing and PDF Issues for Some Users
A recent update to Microsoft's .NET Framework has caused problems for some users when printing documents or creating PDFs. The issue arose after installing the August 2026 cumulative update, specifically KB5120708 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1.
Microsoft acknowledged reports of this issue in their release notes, stating that certain fonts, including Calibri, may cause errors when printing or generating PDF/XPS content. The company is still investigating the matter but has provided a temporary fix for users experiencing problems.
The workaround involves enabling an AppContext switch to disable security protections introduced in the update. However, Microsoft warns that this may increase exposure to vulnerabilities addressed by the update and should only be used as a temporary measure.
