Netflix Brings 4K Streaming to Chrome on Windows PCs

For years, Netflix has been streaming at 1080p in Chrome on Windows PCs, even for those who pay for the Premium plan. However, this is finally changing as Netflix has rolled out support for 4K streaming in Chrome.

To get started, users need to ensure their browser and computer meet the minimum requirements. This includes having Chrome version 117 or newer installed, which can be checked by going to Settings > About Chrome. Users also need to have a Windows 11 PC with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 or newer graphics card, AMD Radeon RX 400-series GPU or newer, and compatible Intel or AMD processors.

Another crucial aspect is the display itself. The monitor must be capable of 4K at 60Hz and support HDCP 2.2 copy protection. Additionally, users need to ensure that their playback quality is set to Auto or High in Netflix's settings.

Having a gaming PC with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card and a 4K monitor, he was excited to try out the 4K streaming on Chrome. After setting up everything correctly, he found that it worked smoothly without any issues.

While this is a significant improvement for Windows users, Netflix still tops out at 1080p in Chrome on Macs. Sood expresses his hope that Netflix will bring the same support to Chrome on Mac as well.
