New Mexico Delegation Demands Apple, Google Keep State's Name Unchanged

New Mexico's congressional delegation has written to Apple and Google, urging them to ensure that the state remains named 'New Mexico' on their maps. This comes after President Donald Trump's social media posts suggested renaming the state to 'New America'. The letter, signed by all Democratic members of Congress from New Mexico, notes that Trump lacks the authority to make such a change, which can only be done through a state constitutional amendment.

The delegation pointed out that Apple and Google had previously updated their maps to reflect Trump's renaming of the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario. They also noted that both companies have significant business interests before the federal government and have made donations to Trump's projects in the past.

The letter asks Apple and Google to publicly commit to keeping New Mexico's name unchanged, regardless of any pressure from the President. It requests a response by September 19. The delegation argues that the state's name is not a 'political football' to be negotiated between Trump and tech companies.
