Newark Man Beaten Unconscious in Dollar General Parking Lot Assault
A violent assault occurred in the parking lot of a Newark Dollar General store early on July 24. A man had just exited a New Jersey Transit bus and was walking westbound on Springfield Avenue when a group of individuals approached him.
The victim tried to run past them, but they grabbed his shoulder, causing him to fall to the ground in the parking lot. He was then beaten unconscious and robbed of his iPhone, identification, credit card, and Beats headphones, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr.
After fleeing the scene, the suspects were captured on a nearby surveillance camera as they ran through the parking lot of a nearby Home Depot. The victim was taken to University Hospital by a bystander and suffered multiple injuries, including facial fractures and a broken nose.
The Newark Police Division is now seeking the public's help in identifying the group of suspects and has released the footage from the surveillance camera. Authorities are asking anyone who might be able to identify the suspects to contact the Newark Police Division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS, which provides confidential tips that may result in a reward.
