Nigeria Launches Digital Skills Training Program for 32,000 Nigerians
The Federal Ministry of Education in Nigeria has launched the Digital Training Academy (DTA), a six-month program aimed at equipping 32,000 Nigerians with digital skills and professional certifications.
The academy is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda to address Nigeria's widening digital skills gap. The Ministry of Education received over 72,000 applications from across the country, but only 16,000 candidates made it into the first cohort.
The DTA will cover high-demand areas such as software development, cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, cloud computing, IT automation, Natural Language Processing, and quantum computing. Learners will use global platforms like Coursera and Pluralsight to pursue certifications from recognized technology organizations including Google, IBM, and Huawei.
The Federal Government will provide computers, internet access, dedicated training centers, facilitators, and mentors to support the cohort. Partnerships with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) will underpin the program's delivery across the country.
