Nigerian Court Invalidates PENGASSAN Chevron Branch Dissolution
A court in Nigeria has ruled against the dissolution of PENGASSAN's Chevron branch executive committees and declared the subsequent caretaker committee unconstitutional.
The National Industrial Court of Nigeria, presided over by Justice Joyce A. O. Damachi, made the ruling on August 10, 2026, in a suit initiated by seven members of the union against PENGASSAN's National President, Comrade Festus Osifo, and General Secretary, Comrade Lumumba Ighotemu Okugbawa.
The court held that the Central Working Committee (CWC) lacked powers to dissolve the branch executive without prior approval from the National Executive Council (NEC) and in compliance with the union's constitution.
