Nigerian Court Orders Fresh Election for Chevron Branch of PENGASSAN
The National Industrial Court of Nigeria has nullified an election held by PENGASSAN for its Chevron branch on September 16, 2025. The court ordered a fresh poll within 30 days, which will be supervised by the South-West Zonal Director of Labour.
Justice Joyce A. O. Damachi delivered the judgment in Suit No. NICN/LA/214/2025, declaring unconstitutional and void the dissolution of the Chevron Branch Executive Committee and Chapter Executive Committee by PENGASSAN's Central Working Committee on October 8, 2024.
The court also declared invalid a three-month extension of the caretaker committee's tenure beyond the constitutionally prescribed period. It further invalidated the purported unilateral revocation of the Chevron branch bye-laws dated February 10, 2017, as reviewed in February 2022.
