Nigerian Woman's K-1 Fiancé Visa Journey Takes 22 Months
A Nigerian woman named Joy shared her 22-month-long journey to obtain a K-1 fiancé visa for the United States on TikTok. She documented every stage of the process, from filing the petition to landing in the US.
The journey began with a petition filed by Joy's US-based partner, accompanied by evidence of their genuine relationship. This included WhatsApp chats, call records, photos together, and travel itineraries. The processing stage that follows is the longest part of the wait, typically taking between eight and twelve months, but in Joy's case, it clocked in at nine months.
Joy's interview at the Lagos Embassy did not result in an immediate approval. Despite answering around seven questions to the best of her ability, the officer placed her case under 221(g) administrative processing, requiring further investigation before a final decision could be made.
