Nike Assures Execs It Stays in S&P 500 Despite Index Change
Nike has sent an internal memo to its executives reassuring them that it remains in the S&P 500 index. The company was set to be removed from the smaller S&P 100 index on September 21, but this change does not affect its status in the larger S&P 500.
The memo clarified that Nike's removal from the S&P 100 is a routine change and that the company's business, strategy, operations, or public listing are unaffected. The S&P Dow Jones Indices announced last week that several companies would be removed from the S&P 100, including Nike, Honeywell Aerospace, Simon Property Group, and Colgate-Palmolive.
Nike's stock has dropped over 40% in 2026 and is on track for a fifth consecutive yearly loss. The company's market capitalization of around $55-57 billion is significantly lower than its peak near $264-281 billion in November 2021.
