Nike Stock Price Hits Multi-Year Low Amid Weakening Consumer Confidence
Nike's stock price has been in a prolonged multi-year downtrend since its peak near $123 in 2023. The company's shares have fallen 65% from that high, currently trading around $40.
The decline is attributed to the weakening consumer confidence index, which slipped from 90.2 in July to 89.4 in August, missing expectations for the second consecutive month.
Dick's Sporting Goods' recent earnings report, which showed a 30.75% drop, further weighed on Nike's stock price. The company cited 'difficult market conditions' and a market that is 'becoming increasingly promotional' in certain athletic footwear and apparel segments.
The technical analysis of Nike's stock price suggests that it is currently trading below both its EMA21 ($41.12) and EMA78 ($43.76), with the descending trendline acting as overhead resistance on any potential bounce.
