Nike's Comeback Story Faces Uphill Battle Amidst Intensifying Competition
Nike's stock price hit a 12-year low in August, and despite efforts to turn things around, analysts remain cautious about the company's prospects.
The athletic footwear giant has lost nearly 78% of its market value since November 2021, and is currently valued at a forward P/E multiple of 24x, significantly lower than its five-year average multiple of 33x.
Nike is attempting to regain its dominance in the sportswear category through its 'Sport Offense' strategy, which focuses on uniting product, design, marketing, merchandising, and marketplace execution around individual sports.
The company has shown some positive signs, with its performance category growing in the mid-single digits in FY 2026 and Nike Running delivering five consecutive quarters of double-digit growth, resulting in roughly $1 billion in revenue.
