Ninth Circuit Affirms Approval of Google Location Tracking Settlement

A California federal court's decision to grant final approval of a settlement between class representatives and Google has been upheld by the Ninth Circuit. The lawsuit alleged that Google continuously tracked users' location and stored data even after they switched off their devices' 'Location History' feature.

The Ninth Circuit ruled that distributing settlement funds through a claims process would be too costly, and each class member's share of the settlement would be too small to be meaningful.

This decision brings an end to a long-standing lawsuit against Google over its location tracking practices. The company had previously stated that it does not collect location data when users turn off Location History.
