NJ Sues Amazon Over Alleged Anticompetitive Practices Hurting Delivery Drivers

New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport filed a lawsuit against Amazon, alleging 'anticompetitive practices' that harm thousands of delivery drivers in the state.

The complaint claims Amazon's Delivery Service Partner (DSP) program prevents unionization, restricts hiring between DSP companies, and limits competition for labor, causing lower wages and harsher working conditions for drivers.

Davenport said her office is standing up for exploited drivers who are being taken advantage of by one of the world's biggest corporations. She noted that Amazon built a company worth trillions while subjecting drivers to artificially low pay and punishing working conditions due to its overwhelming power in the labor market.

The lawsuit alleges Amazon closely monitors DSP drivers through AI, in-vehicle cameras, and other technology, and has responded to suspected union organizing with intimidation and retaliatory route reallocation. It also claims Amazon controls the hiring process for DSPs and has sought to prevent them from hiring each other's workers, a classic form of anticompetitive behavior known as 'no-poach' agreements.
