New Mexico's congressional delegation has asked tech giants Google and Apple to commit to keeping the state's name on their maps.

The letter, signed by all Democrats in the delegation, follows a series of tweets from former President Donald Trump suggesting he wants to rename New Mexico 'New America.'

Last year, Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the 'Gulf of America' and Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' through executive order.

The letter notes that renaming New Mexico would require a state constitutional amendment and points out that both companies have updated their maps to reflect Trump's new names for other geographic locations.

The delegation is requesting that Apple and Google publicly commit to keeping New Mexico's name on their maps, regardless of any pressure from the former President or executive orders.
