NM Delegates Urge Apple and Google to Resist White House Pressure on State Name

A group of New Mexico's congressional delegates has sent a letter to Apple and Google, urging them to maintain the state's name on their mapping services.

The request was sparked by President Trump's recent social media post suggesting renaming New Mexico to 'New America.'

In the letter, U.S. Senator Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM) and other delegates emphasize that the President has no legal authority to rename the state, citing their Constitution which clearly states 'the name of this state is New Mexico.'

The delegates ask Apple Maps and Google Maps to commit publicly to identifying the State of New Mexico as such, regardless of any pressure from the White House.
