No Special Treatment: Google Says Most Industries Can Ignore Geo Optimization
Google's John Mueller recently weighed in on whether certain industries can disregard Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) and focus solely on traditional Search Engine Optimization (SEO). The answer might surprise some, as Mueller stated that from Google's perspective, there is nothing special to be done for AI search.
Mueller responded to a question about industries where GEO doesn't matter. He clarified that Google's AI search results are derived directly from the crawled index, pulling top search results and additional related searches. This means businesses and publishers don't need to do anything extra to rank in AI search beyond regular SEO practices.
While this might be a relief for some industries, it also highlights how little has changed with Google's approach to AI search. The company is still relying on its traditional algorithms to provide relevant results, rather than introducing new, AI-specific optimization methods.
