This historic steel bridge, built around 1890, carries a single lane of Fish and Game Road across Big Flat Brook and is surrounded by beautiful woods and trout streams. Reviewers praised the peaceful surroundings and good fishing spots, but noted that the road beyond the bridge can be challenging for some vehicles.
The Paulinskill Viaduct in Knowlton Township comes in second with a 4.8-star rating from 134 users. The viaduct is an abandoned concrete railroad structure with impressive views and architecture, although some reviewers mentioned posted restrictions and hazards around the area.
On the other hand, the Portal Bridge in Kearny earned a dismal 3-star rating from 107 users. This 116-year-old swing bridge carries NJ Transit and Amtrak trains across the Hackensack River but has been plagued by mechanical problems and delays. Reviewers complained about the tolls and the fact that it opens for boats, causing disruptions to train service.
