North Platte Resident Douglas Almon Howard Passes Away at Age 85

Douglas Almon Howard, an 85-year-old resident of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away on August 8, 2026, just a day after celebrating his 85th birthday. He was born on August 7, 1941, to Virgil Clyde and Lora (Hunt) Howard.

Doug grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School with the class of 1959. After graduating, he entered the United States Navy and served his country. Following his military service, Doug worked in security for the Sherman Williams Factory in California, having previously worked for Sherwin-Williams Paint in North Platte.

In his personal life, Doug married twice: first to Georgia Dike on December 1, 1961, with whom he had a daughter, Brenda Lee Howard. He then married Brenda Berringer in 1973, adding two children of her own, Troy and Terri, to his family. In 2000, he married Doris Reutzel, joining forces with her daughter Stacy as part of the union.
