Notre Dame Falls Short of Championship at Nike Invitational
The Notre Dame High School volleyball team took second place at the Nike Invitational, held at Father Minett Gymnasium on Saturday. The Nikes went 3-2 for the tournament, with a loss to Class 3A's 13th-ranked West Liberty in the championship match. In pool play, they beat Van Buren County and Keokuk but fell to West Liberty.
The team's standout performers included Charlie Smith with 10 kills, 20 digs, one block, and eight aces; Bella Drew with 26 kills, 32 digs, one block, and four aces; and Meadow VanZee with 21 kills, 25 digs, one block, and four aces. Ainsley Conrad had 72 assists, 22 digs, and was 32-of-36 serving with four aces.
West Burlington finished third in the tournament, going 3-2 overall. Kaylee Webb led their team with 56 kills, five assists, 44 digs, and four blocks, as well as being 50-of-51 serving with eight aces.
