NTSB Releases Preliminary Report on Ryanair-Malta Air Boeing 737-800 Incident
The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released a preliminary report on an incident involving a Ryanair-Malta Air Boeing 737-800 that occurred on July 10, 2026.
The aircraft, with manufacturer's serial number 36569, was operating as Malta Air flight 1879 from Thessaloniki/Macedonia Airport in Greece to Memmingen Airport in Germany when a cabin window blew out, causing the cabin to depressurize.
A passenger sitting next to one of the windows on the starboard side of the aircraft was partially pulled out before being brought back inside as the crew descended for an emergency landing at Thessaloniki.
The NTSB's preliminary report revealed that damage was sustained to the aircraft's fuselage and its number two engine, including its turbine blades and fan casing.
