Nvidia Acquires AI Platform Hugging Face in $12.93 Billion Deal
Nvidia has announced its plan to acquire Hugging Face, an artificial intelligence software platform, for $12.93 billion. This deal marks a significant move in the field of AI, as Nvidia aims to scale and strengthen Hugging Face's infrastructure.
Hugging Face, founded in 2016 by three French entrepreneurs, boasts over 18 million users who have created more than 3 million models in over a million applications. The platform is known for its open models that can be downloaded and modified, setting it apart from closed models used by rivals such as OpenAI.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang emphasized the importance of keeping Hugging Face an open platform, allowing developers to choose their preferred models, frameworks, clouds, and computing platforms. The acquisition is seen as a strategic move for Nvidia, which has already released over 500 models on Hugging Face and more than 250 open datasets.
Hugging Face co-founder Clem Delangue expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that he and his team would remain at the helm of the platform within the Nvidia team. This move aims to maintain Hugging Face's independence while leveraging Nvidia's resources to expand its reach.
