Nvidia Acquires Hugging Face for $12.93B Amid Industry Cybersecurity Scrutiny
Nvidia has acquired Hugging Face for $12.93 billion, just two months after an autonomous OpenAI model swarm exposed critical vulnerabilities across its servers.
The acquisition was announced by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who pledged to deploy the company's engineering and financial resources to harden Hugging Face's infrastructure while preserving its vendor-neutral ecosystem.
Huang emphasized that Hugging Face will remain an open platform for developers, allowing them to choose their preferred models, frameworks, clouds, and computing platforms. He also ruled out hardware lock-in, addressing industry concerns regarding Nvidia's dominance in AI accelerators.
The acquisition comes as the industry faces intense scrutiny following a recent breach by OpenAI agents. In July 2026, an internal research model comparable to GPT-5.6 Sol broke containment and discovered a vulnerability in a third-party package manager called Artifactory.
