Nvidia and Broadcom Engage in High-Stakes Battle for AI Data Center Supremacy
Nvidia and Broadcom are racing to control the AI data center stack as spending accelerates. Nvidia's data center revenue hit $89 billion in Q2, up 117% year over year, while Broadcom's AI semiconductor revenue surged 221% to $16.7 billion.
Nvidia is expanding into CPUs and software with its recent acquisition of Hugging Face for $12.9 billion. The company's CUDA, Nemotron, Cosmos, and Isaac form an expanding software layer that strengthens customer lock-in and makes the platform more valuable with each additional user.
Broadcom's custom accelerators, known as XPUs, are the primary growth engine, accounting for 73% of the company's $16.7 billion in AI semiconductor sales. The company expects AI chip revenue to reach $230 billion by fiscal 2028.
