Nvidia and Partners to Build 2GW AI Capacity in Australia by 2027
Nvidia and eight Australian data centre and cloud partners have announced a plan to build up to 2 gigawatts of AI computing capacity in Australia by 2027, more than double the country's existing 1.6GW of total data centre load.
The deal ropes in Firmus, Sharon AI, IREN, ResetData, Megaport, CDC, NEXTDC and AirTrunk, turning Australia into one of the largest single national build sites for Nvidia's DSX AI factory platform outside the United States.
Australia was not an obvious first choice for a build of this scale a few years ago, but local demand for sovereign AI capacity has increased sharply since the Digital Transformation Agency tightened its own sovereign cloud rules in early September. The DTA's narrowed sovereign register now lists just six vendors holding whole-of-government cloud arrangements.
