Nvidia and SpaceX Unveil Plan for Satellite Network with One Million AI-Powered Satellites
Nvidia and SpaceX are partnering to build a satellite compute payload called Starmind AI1, which will perform advanced AI computing directly in orbit. The project aims to create an orbital network of one million satellites that can process AI workloads in low Earth orbit using Nvidia's latest hardware.
The first Starmind satellites will be powered by Nvidia's Vera CPUs and Rubin GPUs, with a processing performance up to 25 times that of an H100 GPU. This technology is part of Nvidia's space computing portfolio, which it introduced in March.
SpaceX believes that space offers several advantages for AI computing, including steady solar energy and the ability to remain hardware-flexible. The company plans to deploy a petabit-scale optical communications network using high-speed laser links between satellites.
