Nvidia-Backed Startup Volta Emerges from Stealth with $10 Billion AI Factory Deal
Nvidia-backed startup Volta has emerged from stealth mode with a $2.4 billion valuation and a $10 billion agreement to build an AI factory in Europe, solidifying Nvidia's position in the growing market for next-generation computing systems.
The deal highlights the importance of financing, power, and construction capacity in the AI infrastructure race, where chip supply is no longer the only factor driving demand. Volta's platform combines financing, powered land, data centers, computing hardware, software, and operations to deploy capacity faster and at a lower cost than competing providers.
The startup completed seed and Series A funding rounds led by Azora, Andreessen Horowitz, Altimeter, and Nvidia, with Michael Dell's family office and Matter Venture Partners also participating. Volta has established a program with Azora that could provide $5 billion of infrastructure financing.
Volta addresses one of AI infrastructure's biggest bottlenecks: access to affordable capital. Its first disclosed project is a 133-megawatt deployment in Norway using Nvidia's Vera Rubin systems, part of a pipeline exceeding one gigawatt across Europe and the U.S.
