Nvidia Backs Zayo's $1 Billion Fiber Expansion Push
Zayo, a digital infrastructure provider, is teaming up with Nvidia to expand fiber-optic cable across the US. The two companies will build over 8,000 miles of new fiber, with Nvidia as an early customer.
The partnership aims to support the growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. Zayo CEO Steve Smith said that AI is 'fundamentally reshaping where and how network infrastructure needs to be built across the U.S.'
Nvidia's Vice President of Engineering for AI Infrastructure, Vladimir Troy, noted that the network connecting data centers is becoming as important as the processing power inside them.
Zayo has been expanding its network over the past 18 months, with build and overbuild projects covering more than 15,000 route miles across North America. The company's North America network now spans 32 million fiber miles, including 224,000 route miles from existing networks and 8,000 new miles from the Nvidia partnership.
