Nvidia Blows Away Q2 Estimates, But Risks Lurk in Circular Financing Deals
Nvidia's latest financial results have left investors buzzing, with the company reporting a whopping 106% increase in revenue for its fiscal 2027 second quarter. The tech giant's data center segment saw an even faster growth rate of 117%, thanks to the global shortage of AI chips and components.
The company's Vera Rubin systems, which include GPUs, CPUs, and advanced networking components, offer up to 30 times more performance per megawatt than its previous Blackwell Ultra systems. This innovation is expected to reduce inference token costs by a staggering 97%, making it even more appealing for data center operators.
Nvidia's stock price soared nearly 9% after the announcement, and the company's valuation remains attractive with a price-to-earnings ratio of just 34.9, a steep discount to its 10-year average. The company has also given investors a glimpse into its future prospects, forecasting revenue growth of at least 70% in fiscal 2028.
However, there are concerns surrounding Nvidia's circular financing deals with AI labs. The company is investing directly into these startups and partially funding their purchases of GPUs and other hardware, effectively financing the sale of its own products. This could become a significant risk if the AI boom hits a speed bump in the future.
