Nvidia Brings DLSS 5 to NBA 2K27, Promises Future Support for RTX 40-Series
Nvidia has officially launched DLSS 5 inside NBA 2K27, but it's only available for RTX 50-series GPUs at the moment. The tech is expected to be brought to previous-gen RTX 40-series hardware in the future.
DLSS 5 uses a combination of training data and engine data to infer lighting and shadows, upgrading the scene to look more photorealistic. However, it's extremely taxing on performance, with Nvidia's marketing showing DLSS 5 netting 370 FPS at 4K with an RTX 5090, but this number comes from 6x MFG - five fake frames being interpolated for every real frame.
Nvidia has confirmed that they plan to expand official support to the GeForce RTX 40 Series once RTX 50 Series performance is more fully tuned. This follows a heavily scrutinized announcement earlier in the year and the recent work of modders who have shown it's possible to make DLSS 5 work on older Ada GPUs.
The company's focus is currently on optimizing performance for the GeForce RTX 50 Series, with model updates expected later this fall. As more games implement the tech, the dataset behind it will mature, and DLSS 5 might one day grow to distinguish itself from AI slop for its critics.
