Nvidia Buys HuggingFace for $13 Billion Open-Source Push
Nvidia has acquired AI startup HuggingFace for almost $13 billion in a move that bolsters its stake in open-source AI models.
The deal, announced on September 3, allows Nvidia access to HuggingFace's huge library of open-source models and datasets, which can be used and altered by anyone.
HuggingFace CEO Clement Delangue said his team approached Nvidia over the summer in an effort to expand their computing resources.
'Together, we think we can make open source the default way to build AI, with the goal of empowering 100 million AI builders to own their intelligence rather than rent it,' Delangue wrote on X.
