Nvidia CEO Repeats AGI Hype with GPT-6 Astra, But Experts Remain Skeptical
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has once again declared that AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) has arrived, this time citing OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra as evidence. However, Huang has been wrong before about AGI, and many experts are skeptical of his claims.
GPT-6 Astra is an AI model developed using over 100,000 NVIDIA GPUs, which according to OpenAI, represents a significant step forward in AI capabilities. The model boasts incredible aptitude at tasks across software engineering, science, mathematics, and professional workflows.
However, AGI is not a well-defined term, making it difficult to determine if GPT-6 Astra truly meets the criteria. An AGI should be able to beat humans across any task that involves thinking or reasoning, adapt to new problems by applying what it has learned in training, and evolve itself without being retrained or reprogrammed.
Jensen Huang's celebration of AGI may be motivated by a desire to promote Nvidia's GPUs and attract investment for OpenAI. The arrival of AGI could represent the last opportunity for investors to make big gains in AI before ASI (Artificial Superintelligence) takes over productivity.
