NVIDIA Compute Demand Skyrockets as Anthropic Locks Down $517 Billion
Anthropic has secured $517 billion in compute capacity ahead of its IPO, marking a significant milestone for the company and NVIDIA (NVDA). This massive commitment is expected to reshape the math behind every NVIDIA forecast on Wall Street. The figure aggregates contracted and reported deals stretching across the next decade and is primarily fueled by NVIDIA-powered infrastructure.
The compute bill spans hyperscalers like Amazon (AMZN) and Alphabet (GOOGL), neoclouds including CoreWeave (CRWV), and specialty providers, with a focus on silicon. Top hyperscalers account for over $300 billion of the total, blending AWS Trainium and Google TPU capacity with NVIDIA-powered infrastructure.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang stated that 'AI has reached its inflection point,' highlighting the growing demand for compute resources. The company's Q2 FY2027 revenue landed at $96.22 billion, up 105.85% year over year, with Data Center at $89.02 billion, up 117%. Supply commitments swelled to $279 billion, largely tied to memory procurement.
The Anthropic commitment tightens the bottleneck on NVIDIA's supply chain, which is already facing capacity constraints. OpenAI's existing and planned commitments represent approximately 12 gigawatts of NVIDIA compute, while cloud-industry backlog exceeds $2 trillion.
