Nvidia Dives Deeper into AI Market with $3.5B MediaTek Investment
Nvidia has made its largest direct investment to date outside the US by committing $3.5 billion to MediaTek through convertible bonds.
The deal allows Nvidia to acquire equity in MediaTek and marks a significant expansion of their existing partnership, which spans several key areas including AI technology for personal computers and automobiles.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that this investment will 'make it a lot bigger' than their current partnership, with plans spanning the next decade. He emphasized that both companies will align on platforms such as NVLink Fusion and NVHBM to improve interoperability within data centers.
This strategic move strengthens Nvidia's position in the AI market by anchoring its hardware standards and interconnects. MediaTek is also seeking to take on competitors like Broadcom Inc. and Marvell Technology Inc. by developing custom components for data center operators.
