Nvidia DLSS 5 Leak Reveals Performance Issues Ahead of Autumn Launch
An early version of Nvidia's DLSS 5 'neural rendering' technology has been leaked into the wild after being accidentally included in an NBA 2K27 early-access build. The leak, discovered by modders in the RenoDX community, allows users to inject the AI system into games it was not designed for, including Remedy's Control.
The modded version of DLSS 5 was quickly tested across several titles, including Control, Cyberpunk 2077, and GTA V. While the visual results have been mixed, with some users reporting a paler face on protagonist Jesse Faden in Control, others found that enabling the feature caused significant performance issues.
Tests on an RTX 5090 with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D found that frame rates in Control dropped from 91 FPS to 50 FPS when enabling DLSS 5. A separate benchmark on an RTX 5070 Ti at 4K reported similar results, with frame rates dropping from 71 to 35 FPS.
Nvidia's official launch for DLSS 5 is still set for this fall, but the leak gives outsiders a glimpse into its raw performance costs. For PC players who already pay a premium for RTX 50-series hardware, the leak serves as a reminder that further driver and game-side optimisation may be needed before DLSS 5 becomes a feature worth switching on.
